T minus 22 weeks

Preface: The purpose of this blog is to chronicle my preparations for MS Tour de Farms 15.

To be completely honest with you I actually began taking mental notes for this year's ride the night before the 2014 ride began. With a 7am starting time I opted to drive out to DeKalb the night before. Unfortunately, arriving after dark as I did, I missed out on some of the pre-ride events and the opportunity to socialize with the other riders. So note to Scott; get to DekKalb before dark. The day of the event was filled with countless ah ha! moments on how to make the experience even more enjoyable. Note to self: take a selfie with that calf at the 1st rest stop or Note to self: do more strength training because of the long rolling hills on Five Points Road.

So here I sit on a cold January evening trying to jump-start my blogging efforts as I prepare for that last weekend in June.

1st split

I try to get to the town's rec center at least three time a week to do strength and cardio training. This afternoon I rode  on the hand ergometer for 60 minutes.

All in all I am satisfied with my conditioning so far. I have managed to keep my weight in check, gaining about 5 to 7 pounds since moving indoors. Part of that gain is on purpose (more protein in diet ) and the other from the holidays. The 12.45 mph pace is above my speed from last year so thats good. I really want to build my endurance up so that I can complete a century ride (100 miles) this season. I will attempt that distance in June but I'm worried about what the temperatures will be...Oh well.
